Royden,
Where did you get the vortex generators on your wing?
Who came up with the positioning?
Do they make a difference?
Thanks,
Dan Caldwell

Sure, I had it repainted in 2012, based on my own design.

The Yak55 aircraft was originally designed to be charged from a ground bottle for each start. They did incorporate a "Pop Off Valve". The air compressors on the engines were not connected to the air start system. Therefore they did not have the water trap, the cooling shroud etc.
When they came to the U.S. people connected the compressor to the system in various ways. When we did it, we usually installed a Yak-52 type system including the long metal pipe with a loop for cooling, the water trap, a check valve and a pressure gage. At that time the original Russian parts were readily available so we used them.
The 1996 aircraft were probably part of the 7 new aircraft that Tom Klassen and I imported without engines directly from the factory. As I remember Tom assembled 5 aircraft in St Louis and Rob Porter in North Carolina assembled 2 aircraft.         We imported several used aircraft and a few new old stock aircraft through our facility in Vermont and modified them to be similar to Yak-52 air systems. We also modified the straight 55's we imported to use hydraulic brake systems instead of the original mechanical system.
