Second thoughts. The aircraft I describe may have been 1994. I know the 1993 Grand Champ Lt Plane.

No important. Just making my brain itch a bit.

You aren't flying a Kolb?

Try this one:  http://alaska.gov/visitorhome.html

Be careful in Anchorage and Fairbanks.  Easy to get mugged.  Pan Handlers everywhere.  Much safer out in the bush with the beasts and bears, but you need a Kolb to get there.

Tough keeping this one Kolb related.  Wink

I have not been able to fly to Alaska like John, still dreaming of that.
I did get a chance to ride the 11,000 miles from Phoenix AZ to Alaska and back.
It is still probably one of the nicest vacations I have ever had.

Like John did, I dry camped most of the way. There are numerous camping grounds along the Al-Can Hwy that have showers and laundry if you need that.
I prefer to camp with the bears and moose.
I did the trip in late June and it took 20 days.

we plan to camp some but would prefer to stay out of town and drive when we take the day trips on small ships and over night train rider we are staying with a friend in Fairbanks and a outfitter in Talketna . I'm just looking for a 3rd party guide for a week in the Anchorage aria.

I also did the trip by motorcycle in 2006.
I think the most fun I had was in Chicken...

Non-Kolb alert. Also rode my cycle from PA to the Atigun Pass. Went east on Top of the World Highway toward Dawson City on return home and stopped at Chicken for supper. Border was closed until AM so we talked. Asked where they lived before they bought Chicken and she said, "A little place in the lower 48, a town in PA
named New Hope."  "I run Lansdale to Flemington 5 days a week." (which is right through New Hope) I responded. Small world moment.

OOPS! more non Kolb, but it a bit slow anyway...

My wife and I also went in 1979 when the whole way was dirt. We drove this old Corviar (They use those motors in airplanes right??) and three of my buddies followed us in a VW bus. He went through a couple of motors and I went through a couple of trannies. New parts were non existent.
We passed this area. it was a row of signs then, when I saw it in 2006, it was a city of signs.
