I just started my KFIV- 912 engine today for the first time after 24 years of building. It ran great. But, the little Sendek FS-500 digital tach I use as a cross check reads high. When the Rotax Tach is at 2000, the Sendek is roughly the same, but get progressively higher as the engine speed increases. When the Rotax tach is at 4000, the Sendek reads 8500 rpm. I have the Sendek tach set to mode P1 which is one pulse per revolution, which the company website says is correct for the 912 engine. The Sendek uses one wire with 4 wraps around one spark plug wire to pick up the spark pulse.
Anybody have any ideas why? I'd appreciate your thoughts, because this dummy is stumped.

The shielded ignition cables make for problems with the wire wrap. I never got it to work. Also found the analog tach that came with the rotax engine was temperature sensitive and would give different rpms depending on what altitude I was flying. Threw them both away and got a digital that connected to the pickup wires.
