Hi

I have found that my IPAD doesn't seem to charge all that well with the USB outlets I installed in my panel / console. They are rated at 2.1 amps but I guess there must be more to it than that.

Does anyone have a part # / recommendation for a mountable USB port.

Inquiring minds need to know....

Cheers

Les

Les,
Check out http://commitlift.com for a USB that works and isn’t noisy.

I've been using one from brian(at)eamanufacturing.com (brian(at)eamanufacturing.com) that has worked out well. His website is still under construction, but you can probably get one by asking directly.  I got mine from the B&B tent at Oshkosh.

Be sure to use a 'cord' made for an iPad not a generic. The charging circuit is in the cord connector. Good luck.

Actually, Apple USB-Lightning cords do not contain any charging circuitry.
Apple-qualified chargers have resistors which identifies the current carrying
capacity of the cord. Different resistors for 0.5, 1 amp and 2 amp adapters.

Of course cheap generic chargers do not have the Apple resistor network
so the iPad treats it like a 0.5A source.

Depending on the iPad and the brightness setting, a 0.5 Amp charger
will barely keep status quo. You could shut off the iPad and leave it on the
active cord for an hour to see if it charges at all. If any other low-requiring
appliance charges on that cord, it is just a cheap USB socket appliance.
