Each year I have the impression that our 52 is getting heavier and more difficult to handle on the ground…
So I’m looking for a good towing solution.
Before trying to reinvent the wheel, I suppose that there are Yak or Nanchang owners on the list that already found a good, workable solution?

Here's the cheapest ($99) solution that works great for my CJ and other airplanes...
http://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/universal-aircraft-towbar.html?___SID=U
I modified the hitch from the simple drop pin by adding a trailer hitch coupler from Harbor Freight for $12 that way I can tow the airplane with my truck or golf cart.
Cheers,
JB

A golf cart works well and serves two purposes. Moving the Yak in and out of the hangar and ground transportation on the airport.

All our 52s came with little Romanians that are voice activated; Stop, Go, Push, Pull. Where did you get yours?

I use the same tow bar from Sporty's and added a 2" hitch to it I attach with 1/4" bolts and wing nuts when needed. Works well as a simple tiller when pushing/pulling by hand.  Keep an eye on it, the sliding bar for tension has worked itself somewhat loose several times after the paint wore off in the sweet spot. I normally give it a good kick if I'm pulling it with a vehicle to set the tension tight.

Mark, since I use it mostly for my CJ, I drilled a small hole in one side and have a small safety pin (came of an old OV-1 Mohawk ejection seat) to prevent the slippage you mentioned. In fact, I drilled two holes one for the CJ and the other was for my Arrow... Don't think it degrades the integral structure any. Maybe I should have thought of the Kick technique you mentioned...

I have a Minimax Aircraft Tug. See their site below. Made in the US. Guaranteed for life. Very well built. Works great on my CJ. A Yak may need a different setup but I understand he has already designed and shipped a number. Fantastic support. Mine was the first he had to build for the CJ-6, so I'm sure there was engineering costs in it ($1,500). At 76 the airplane is heavy as hell - - I know what you mean.

My little 3 ft RU with 12 in. Fingers that came with my YAK escaped from the container at the POE facility in 2003. Supposedly it happened when customs opened the container for inspection in Charleston. I have my suspicions though. After all how could Big Dog have gotten his big self up in the tail of his 52 to change the cable guide for the upper elevator cable? I know he claims it was Bull Dog that climbed back in empennage but that's impossible, BD is 2 feet taller than that midget Russian and his fingers are only 6 inches long or so his wife claims. I personally have not measured. But, if you see that little bugger running around in YAK tails at the Aiken airport let me know.

Doc, I fixed a catapult tow link on a Prowler with a good swift kick one night to go on a night training strike on Carl Vinson. Told the tweaks it needed adjusted and they didn't believe me until they checked it after my "adjustment". Still have a large calcium deposit on top of my foot for proof. Made the flight. Boot was a little tight when I took it off after I trapped.

Subject: yak 52 towing equipment
Each year I have the impression that our 52 is getting heavier and more difficult to handle on the ground…
So I’m looking for a good towing solution.
Before trying to reinvent the wheel, I suppose that there are Yak or Nanchang owners on the list that already found a good, workable solution?
BR,
Jan

Gotta admit that was using the heel bone. Getting to old and brittle to be kicking immovable things like that. Hammers have to work now. Have not met a cannon ball my son could not dismantle with a ball pin.

Boot was a little tight when I took it off after I trapped.

Here's the cheapest ($99) solution that works great for my CJ and other airplanes...

I modified the hitch from the simple drop pin by adding a trailer hitch coupler from Harbor Freight for $12 that way I can tow the airplane with my truck or golf cart.
