It’s not because Bill Shuster is bull headed; see "House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster is dating a top lobbyist for the leading U.S. airline trade association, an organization that spends millions of dollars trying to influence his panel." Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2015/04/bill-shuster-admits-personal-relationship-with-lobbyist-117054#ixzz48rPuiUQg Follow us: (at)politico on Twitter | Politico on Facebook
Toward the end of the article you will find:
"Bud Shuster, Bill’s father, was also a former chairman of the Transportation Committee. Following a long investigation, the Ethics Committee found Bud Shuster engaged in a “pattern and practice” of allowing his former top aide Ann Eppard — a transportation lobbyist — to appear before him on behalf of her clients after she left his staff. The CBS show “60 Minutes” filmed the elder Shuster hiding from TV cameras in the back seat of Eppard’s car in an attempt to conceal his relationship with her.
Bud Shuster denied wrongdoing in his dealings with Eppard, but he resigned after the Ethics Committee released its report on him."
In our gerrymandered political system, the primary election is critical. The AOPA and EAA should be looking for ( and funding) a Republican GA pilot to run against Shuster in the Pennsylvania 9th district primary.

The problem right now is Bill Shuster (R-PA), the chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure committee, is holding everything up because he's bull-headedly refusing to give up on ATC privatization... even though pretty much everyone else that not an airline agrees this is a bad idea.
On a positive note, the 3rd class medical reform portion of the PBOR2 was just attached to a defense funding bill, that was just passed thru the armed services committee. This will be the 3rd copy of the law to be going thru the system. The first two versions passed the Senate, but Mr. Shuster has stalled them out indefinitely. Perhaps this one won't, as I don't think it has to go thru Shuster's committee. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm for 3rd class medical reform!

This Bill was introduced as a non-partisan issue by a Democrat and Republican yet for some reason the Democrats feel it needs to be a partisan issue. If you haven't contacted your representatives about this Bill yet urging the to get aboard, please do. If you have contacted them about it,,,do it again! The FAA has gotten out of control over class 3 medicals and its time to reign them in.

Do we know that his 'girlfriend' (more importantly one of her other clients) is opposed to this bill? Then we can accuse him of additional unethical behavior as well as thinking with his little head instead of his brain!
Meanwhile, AOPA wants me to donate every time I turn around - they should be publicizing this in order to force passage of this bill designed to make flying our homebuilt / kit aircraft easier and less expensive.
Thanks for getting this out - back to my ADS-B installation!

AOPA, EAA, and your local church can lose their tax-exempt status if they engage directly in the partisan political process. Hence their on-paper separate PACs, which accept non-deductible contributions for political purposes.
Now, can we get back to -10's?

This political effort does concern airplanes.
The organizations need to appear to be politically neutral. They
aren't. They have lobbyists talking to at least the FAA and probably
Congress.

Lyle is right. This topic has EVERYTHING to do with airplanes, and as pilots, we need to get involved. My main point in bringing this topic up was to get some information on why there are so few (only 19) Democrats that are supporting this Bill when it is a non partisan issue? The second point is a reminder for everyone on this list to contact their reps. I know there are Liberals on this list that take great offense to me pointing this out but suck it up buttercup.
