Personally I am uncomfortable with anything that can come apart and fall down into control linkages, and leather straps and buckles on the rudder pedals fall into that category. Yes, my feet have flown off the rudder pedals and up behind the control panel the first time I applied significant negative G. I was surprised and wondered where the heck my feet were! However, this was also due to not being properly strapped into the aircraft. My harness was nowhere NEAR tight enough! I went right out and purchased the best Hooker Harness I could, and then cranked that thing down until it was hard to breath. At that point I had no more trouble with my feet, or my head hitting the canopy, etc. So my point is, those things do serve a purpose, but you can easily learn to fly without them, and what is more important is being strapped in properly and just learning to deal with it. Of course I could be wrong.
