Well, I won't say here what my empty weight is, but with me and a full load of fuel it is about 546#. Performance is not an issue with this engine and prop combination.

The plane seems to be happiest at ~65 MPH. It will go faster than that by quite a bit, but it does not seem comfortable and you have to "push it" to stay there. Burns lots of gas when you get over 6000 RPM. Drag is a bugger. I have the short windshield. I am sure it would be different with a full enclosure.

I have practiced take-offs and landings on 400' of a nice grass runway, take-off is close but landing is a piece of cake. I am about to move to a 600' mostly dirt strip that is only 30' wide, trees on one side, open field on the other. This should be interesting...

Thanks for the info. 564 lbs that is interesting, you and i are in the same situation. isn't the gross weight of the firefly 500 lbs? how important is the 500 lbs limit? 400 feet sounds pretty good to me. what elevation is your airport? do you know at what speed you begin to lift off?
