Hi all,

I purchased a bird in Houston this spring, it has tanks under the wing. I"m about to take them off, but I will need the covers that cover the internals. They "didn't" have them.

ideas? sources?

thanks

Specifically,

Clipped on the bottom of the pylon, between the tank and the pylon. When you pull the tank off, you should see them with little clips holing them in some keeper holes. It will fly without them, but not a preferred configuration.

I'm confused about what is being asked about. When you remove the drop tanks there is a small clip that goes on over the access. As mentioned here. However if you remove the drop tanks and the hard points there are covers that can be put in where the hard points go to make a smooth bottom wing.

Why are you taking them off? The penalty for leaving them on is between 10% & 15%.Since most of us can’t afford to go very far any way, it shouldn’t matter.
Just curious.

Outside the USA, we use the Metric system... so Foreflight prices are listed in the unit used in that specific airport... so for Canada the price are most probably $1.00 Canadian per Litre... or $3.78 Canadian per Gallon which at today's exchange rate is $2.90 USD per gallon.

I paid $2.70 USD per gallon at my airport when you factor all these ($0.93 per litre)

Keep in mind that fuel is priced by the litre in Canada. There are 3.785 litres per US Gallon, so that fuel costs $3.785/gallon. Convert to US$ and it is $2.93/gallon. Still want to come up here?

Not a good idea to fly without the covers.Jean de Roubin

If you are leaving the pylons on but flying with out the fuel tanks, the two ports that are open for pressurization of the tank and the larger line for fuel to the main tank would be left open. The covers for these ports are built into structural provisions in the pylon that hold (via clips) these covers while the tank is in use. not using the covers means you have a bleed air leak (no big deal) but the fuel in from the tank becomes a vent and could pull in debris from ground operations (troubling but unlikely).

I many be able to post a picture later today...

I'm confused about what is being asked about. When you remove the drop tanks there is a small clip that goes on over the access. As mentioned here. However if you remove the drop tanks and the hard points there are covers that can be put in where the hard points go to make a smooth bottom wing. Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

The plug covers are usually clipped to the pylons.

When we first imported the L29’s, some had the little plugs some didn’t. We flew anyway. If you think about it, the 7 psi air that the bleed line puts out if nothing. (1/2 atmosphere)while you are flying the airflow will create a venturi effect and help to suck out the bleed air. fuel cannot flow (one way) from the mains to the external tanks, so no problem. Sounds funny but use DUCT TAPE to cover the holes.
Sadly the L29 is not fast enough to peel the tape!

With the pylons off you get lots of drag. Drag which is greater than that created by leaving the pylons on. Build some aluminum plates. The factory actually made covers. I happen to have a pair. However they
are buried deep somewhere or I would be happy to send pix. Just tape a piece of paper over the area, trace it, make two.

Not much difference the flying with the doors off a Cessna.

I have flown with the front canopy off, (not by choice but that of a student) it took full power to get around the traffic pattern. Fun, lets not do that again! what a drag. (Pun intended)
Blue Sky's!
