Looking at the engine schematic...the 5 wire voltage reg does not have a wire that goes to the CDI boxes..! 3 wires are white and see the three Phase ac voltage... the Cdi boxes have two wires coming from the accessory case and are likely magnetic pickups... 180 degs apart for the two cylinders or could be two pickups for each cyl.. one full adv and one starting and low rpm? ... If single coil they must be set to max advance and the CDI box adds the delay for starting and low rpm operation...? To me...this means that a lot of motorcycle cdi's should work...? Most scooters work similarly... 10 dollar cdi box beats whatever HKS wants... ..whether I would use a Chinese one??? Not likely... I have had two bail on my scooter.. Betting Yamaha has a reasonable replacement?
