Fellow RPA Swamp Pilots,
Hope you are ready for some serious fun and training at our first annual October "Swamp Fest" at Waycross, Georgia.
The dates are 20-23 Oct 2016.
Here's a list of a few things in planning:
-Ground school for basic formation beginning on Thursday afternoon
-Tactical formation training
-Spin Training
-Dedicated IPs for the FNGs.
-Tactical scenario with ground attack on Saturday for the ole hats.
-Bombing contest using different (surprise) ordinance and targets (a little cliff hanger to keep your interest).
-Spot landing contest. The USN pilots are challenging the rest of us...
-Aviation Scavenger Hunt... You'll see.
-Low Country Boil on Saturday night... with free beer of course.
-Acro box, so invite anyone who might want to just do some acro and hang out with Redstars.
-Free Tee Shirts with special "Swamp Fest" artwork.
Start thinking about someone you can invite to come along with you... either as a GIB and especially on your wing. Forward this email and invite one or two general aviation (Cessna/Piper/RV) pilots to fly in and hang out with us as well... a great way to grow interest in the warbird and RPA community.
The Details:
Who: RPA Members, but others are invited regardless of formation ratings or type airplane. I’ve had a couple RV guys and other warbirds (T28, T34, T6) guys showing interest.
When: 20-23 October. Arrive by noon on Thursday, 20 October for ground school. Depart Sunday, 23 October.
Where: Waycross, GA (KAYS)
Training: Training events being provided:
- Basic formation ground school will begin at 1300 on 20 October. NOTE: You should download (and read/study) the RPA Formation Manual from the RPA Website (https://flyredstar.starchapter.com/content.php?page=Library). Also, you need to practice as much as possible prior to the clinic. Point being, please don’t come to the clinic with no prior formation training or experience and expect to leave with a wing card. Being a competent and safe formation pilot requires extensive training and practice.
- Spin training ground school/class is Thursday starting at 1400. Flight training (in your airplane) immediately following.
- Tactical (2-ship) formation ground school will be Friday afternoon from 1500-1600. This is targeted towards experienced (read carded) formation pilots, but all are welcome.
- CJ and YAK Maintenance Seminar focusing on the pneumatic system begins Friday afternoon at 1630 – 1800 and will conclude Saturday morning from 0830 – 1000.
Logistics:
- Lodging: I’ve blocked rooms at three hotels (10 at each)… you pick and make your own reservations just ask for the “Redstar Pilot’s” and they’ll give you the discounted rate plus tax. These rates are good until 13 October.
- Holiday Inn Express discounted at $95 per night; includes a full breakfast. 912-548-0720
- Quality Inn discounted at $59 per night; includes continental breakfast. 912-283-4490
- Hampton Inn discounted at $90 per night; includes full breakfast. 912-285-5515
Ground Transportation Provided: I’ll need some help with drivers.
Lunch: Friday and Saturday lunch is catered with a cold cut buffet of roast beef, ham, turkey and chicken salad sandwiches, and fruit including side items and tea (sweet tea of course, this is the South). Cost is included with the event fee.
Dinner: For Friday night, Pappy knows of a great Italian restaurant near the hotel. Saturday night there will be a low country boil, along with burgers, dogs, etc at the hanger with guest speaker and presentations. Did I mention the Free beer!
Fuel and Hangers: Discounted fuel as well as hangers for $10/night. First come first serve on hangers.
Fees/Costs: At this writing, the expected event fee that includes all of the above is about $100.
So here’s what I need from you…
Are you attending? If yes, reply to me separately (not on-list) along with what type training do you need/want? If you've already replied, thank you... no need to double tap.
