Any RV folks have a spare tube and time to fly it to Sault Ste. Marie MI? They don't even have bottle jacks here either so it's a challenge.

I am 45 minutes aware by air but sold my RV 10 last week and the new owner has the spare tubes I kept with the plane. Sorry I can not help a fellow RV'er out.

Bummer. I carry spare tubes for main and nose (used but serviceable) and an adapter for a bottle jack to fit under the tie-down lug.
Probably too big a spare parts kit, but heck, you never know….hope you get back ok. Sorry I couldn’t lend a hand from here.

Once you get the nut off you can use a scissors jack and a piece of pipe
(I"???) to lift the mains to get the wheel off the axle and then let
down on a couple of 2X4s while you work on the wheel. I'm not sure it's
practical to carry the scissors jack and pipe while on a trip ..... I'm
not there yet. The little yellow air pump from Harbor Freight doesn't
weigh much.
I'm all for prevention when it comes to the wheels/tires, but things do
go wrong in a hurry.
Proper assembly of the wheel/tube/tire will go a long way to prevent a flat.

Wish I were nearby, as I have used spare tubes of both sizes and bottle jack.. You didn't say, so I assume you need the 600X15X6, rather than the nose tire. I thought you had 2 flying RV's and a second pilot.....

Thanks all. I think it's just a bad tube. The mate for this tube also had a pinhole in it a while back and had me stranded. I didn't learn the lesson well enough I guess. Let me just tell you, you will almost surely not find a 15-6.00/6 tube on hand anywhere so do travel with one. I will from now on. I had it on my list to order a spare next week. Was trying to recover from a low cash month. Turns out waiting caused a bigger cash outlay. I have never had a problem with a nose tube and don't expect to but I will from now on carry a spare tube for the mains with me and probably a nose too, since it fits the RV14 as well. I will also use Ashley Millers 1-1/8" saddle clamp idea and carry one to use with a bottle jack. And I have added a ratcheting screw bit wrench to my tool list as well for those lower wheel fairing screws. Sadly I just bought one for my RV14 tool kit but never added one to the RV10 kit. Bought one today to keep in that plane. A guy can go broke on spare tools.
I'll be better prepared next time.
The result on this trip? My parents are taking a sudden vacation to Sault Ste. Marie. I booked them a hotel room and they are bringing my wing jack, bead breaker, used serviceable tube, and a few tools. 8+ hour drive. Took me 2 hours to fly here....Actually Andrea did the flying.
I guess my 2 day weekend will take 3...
Good thing is a long weekend.

Tim, I'm 1.5 hrs at most from the Sault, here in Southern Ont. Unfortunately I had left rotator cuff surgery a week ago so I'm grounded for a few weeks, otherwise I could have been up there quickly.
Good luck.

In a pinch you could use a 600x6 tube to get you home. I have also been stuck before. A friend & I squatted the wing enough to get the tire off & then set the axle on some wood blocks while we fixed the tire.

A guy can go broke on!
spare tools.

Now that part I actually HAVE in both planes!
Too bad this whole thing happened up here in the U.P. Of Michigan. It would be more convenient if it was in the Bahamas...

Sorry you got stuck, Tim. That's no fun.
Can you share more detail on the 1-1/8" saddle clamp idea?
Thanks,
Tim

Sorry about that...that came from an Aussie RV10 builder.
Here is the VAF link:

Pretty cheap and simple. Worth adding to the kit. I guess there are still any number of things that can make a guy stuck, but just having the right combination of items along can help make things better. In this case, had I had a new tube, I probably would have figured something out. But I was too dumb to carry a spare tube. This will be remedied Tuesday. I've now had 3 tube failures in the past maybe 2 years. 1 was my fault. The tube that went bad today though is from the same purchase date as the first one that went bad, so I'm questioning the tube. I always install then wrinkle free with plenty of talc. I can't wait to see what the leak looks like tomorrow.

When my main tire went flat, the wheel pant was so close to the ground that I couldn't get a screwdriver on the bottom flat head screw so I replaced it with the NAS style that has a hex head so that a flat wrench could remove it. Also found that where no bottle jack was available, one person sitting on the opposite wing and another lifting the other wing made it possible to get the wheel off to change the tube. I carry a few tools, try to get as many universal type as possible, but it seems like you are always lacking something.

PS: I had to change a tube in Needles, CA on a HOT summer day. Now I have a piece of carpet in the baggage area so I don't have to lay on the hot fiery ramp ever again.

Good timing on this post. I've serviced wheels as part of annual this past weekend. I'd not balanced the wheels in the past and all three required balancing. One less mystery causing occasional shimmy during landings. I was unable to split the wheels to rotate main tires. Tim mentioned using a bead breaker but I don't recall using one last time when I was able to get the two sides apart. What do others do to split their wheels?
Cheers,
Jay

If you talc the rims and the tire bead the bead will come off with
ease. Standing on the tire might work but if they're relly stuck, (and
I hate this but it works) insert a large screwdriver between the tire
bead and the wheel rim. Pry towards the tire or you might pry a chunk
out of the wheel rim. I also have a large vise that I can put the tire
in to squeeze the beads together. Whatever works for you. Prevention
with the talc is the best method I use.

The beads can get very stuck. I have had times when I could stand on the tire and pop it but after a couple of rough ones I looked at bead breakers online and then built one. I used it in Michigan...yesterday the bead was stuck pretty well.

There's a write up with pics.
