In case anyone else is experiencing tailplane play, I have just completed & can recommend LAA mod 11969.
http://www.theeuropaclub.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/11969-TTpins.pdf
It replaces the pins with AN4 bolts, cuddle washers outside & a curved strip with anchor nuts on the inside.
Ian Rickard compiled a list of over a dozen fixes & I felt this was the best choice for me.
Many thanks to him & also Richard Collings the designer.
If anybody wishes to discus the nitty gritty, please give me a call.
Cheers,
Roger

Hi Roger
I installed this mod when i built my aircraft, to me this was the best solution for removing the slop in the tail planes.
Like you I would recommend this to others.
I'm just about to be involved with another build and this mod will also be incorporated into this other aircraft.
Kind regards
Donald

Hi Donald,
Did you torque up to 200?
Seems a bit high.

Hi Roger / Donald
I am in the middle of embodying this mod although with larger bolts (I already had Mod 62 pins fitted).
Did you use the AN960 washers under the bolts on TP9 and TP12?
The pictures appear to show the use of cuddle washers. I thought this might be better and manufactured some cuddle washers from 4130 steel tube.
Also, did you paint / protect the nutplate in the torque tube or go with a regular spray of ACF50 or similar?
I also thought this was the best solution to the tailplane problem and would recommend this mod (although not tested in anger as yet).
My thanks also to Richard and Ian.

Hi All,
I'm bumping this topic, because I am in the process of manufacturing the 11969 assembly in preparation to install and hit a confusing snag, which I hope previous installers can help me with.
Over the weekend I completed 2 off TE01, and was just "fit-checking" everything; which is where I hit my snag but I am not sure where.
The BOM in the mod calls for MS21059-L4 anchor nuts and CCR264CS-4-2 rivets; which I ordered.
The problem is that the rivet won't pass through the mounting hole on the anchor nut baseplate.
Checking my delivered paperwork, I was supplied with CCR264CS4-02 in leiu of CCR264CS-4-2: but this turned out to be a "supplier part number" issue and is not a physical one.
Checking the specifications, the CCR264CS4-02 rivets are 1/8" (0.125")in diameter. The MS21059L4 spec sheets indicates mounting hole diameter of 0.098".
Measuring the parts carefully I am certain that I have been supplied with the correct parts against the BOM for the mod. Therefore I am not sure where the snag is at the moment.
Has anyone else hit this snag, if so what was the solution?
Thanks,
Jon
