The firewall-forward manual for the XS describes how to make the main curved oil tank support bracket from a flat sheet of steel. However, my FWF kit came with a ready-shaped bracket (which is nice - it looks quite tedious to make it from scratch!). However, what I don’t seem to have is the L-shaped bracket that bridges the cutaway in the composite firewall and secures it to the top of the footwell. Obviously I should have had either the ready-made L bracket or the material to make it from, but I can’t find anything answering to either of those descriptions.
Does anyone know if the Europa factory ever supplied a ready-bent L bracket and what the part number might be? If it’s not supplied ready-bent, I might find it handier to source a piece of steel locally (or maybe even find a bit in the “might come in handy” pile . . .).
All suggestions welcome.

Hello all,
After craks on the original main oil tank bracket, I have made a small mod and now no problems.

When the time came around, I made my own 'L' bracket to bridge the cutaway.
It was cut out of a piece of metal lying around, and not likely from the kit
(as best I can remember...but it's been awhile). Could be time for the 'come
in handy' pile, since it won't take a very big piece.

Hi Rowland,
I had an= 1/8" aly strip in my firewall fwd kit, 25mm * 257mm, in a poly bag mysteriously labelled "EURO65". I think it must be to make the "90 degree angled bkt".
There is no dwg, so I guess it is wing-it time again.
The tank has also swapped sides since the Classic, being on the port side on our Classic TriGear G-MFHI. I will stick to the new instructions.

Failing all of the above, B & Q stocks various sizes of steel angle brackets, which would only need suitable holes drilled and rust-proofing. Job done!

David - thanks for your message. Yes, I had a EURO65 in my FWF kit too, but couldn’t find a reference to it in the manual, and nobody seems to know what it’s for. Karen searched for something that might be used to make the oil tank bracket support but she couldn’t find anything and said that EURO65 did not appear to be it.
I am adopting plan B which is to use a longer screw at the top inboard location and fit it with an aluminium sleeve to provide the correct spacing of the bracket from the indented part of the firewall. I feel this is a better engineering solution anyway. Not sure if it will count as a mod!
