Thanks Bob, I expect you're right. I may set up a simple bench-top experiment just to see how much each gauge under reads with the bulb in a pot of boiling water.

Probably not. One thermocouple can be read by
multiple instruments . . . but the calibration
of legacy technologies used by Rochester and
others depends on COMBINED resistance of the
sensor and components built into the gage.
Paralleling two gages would upset the
calibration.
