Ok, ok, after watching some of
my avionics have been slaughtered
recently by an overvoltage
surge, I am willing to switch
to an alternator system (sorry
Doug, can't spend any money
in your department until I've got
that misery solved).
So, WHERE can I procure an
approved conversion kit for the
CJ for a reasonable price (no arms
and legs please, I still need them for
flying).
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Elmar

Elmar:
The B&C alternator and VR will set you back between $900 and $1000. If you install yourself, then there is no install cost, otherwise, add about 10 hours or so to install. For the Housai engine, you also need the M-14 mounting plate with the shaft seal or you'll be spending another $700 real soon to replace the alternator once it gets loaded with oil.
Simple solution is to keep generator and put overvoltage protection on it. Thanks to Brian, Aeroelectric has a unit designed. Bob at Aeroelectric will be producing some soon!

Guys,
I have some on order from China, don't know if I can meet your time line though as mine are about 60 days away.
Contact me off list if you have an interest.

Guys:
I am looking for a source of the mounting plates. Also, Barry Hancock has one and is looking into having a machine shop CNC mill them and make them available as a package with the VR and B&C alternator for a complete conversion.

Alternator mounting plate found. Contact George Coy at Gesoco in Vermont.
Price is $75.

BTW, George has a full conversion using Skytronics alternator, VR and the plate.

Update - I am installing a B&C alternator and LS1A regulator in a CJ, and the only place I could find a M14 mounting plate was Jill. She wants ~$500 for gaskets, seal, mounting plate and gear...

N-number: well, I am restoring/rebuilding the plane from crate, and am seriously thinking of calling it "Zombie"... leaving in a "rat rod" look, with appropriate nose art.
Basically, no repaint.
Just finished recovering the control surfaces, installing Malcolm hood. Anything that comes off, goes back on in perfect condition... so the rat rod look is starting to be hard to pull off. I'm hoping I'm about 6 weeks from taxi tests!
