I have started to layout my Panel (see photo), and have a few questions I hope others can help me with.
1. Whilst the flanges of the Instruments cover most of my shortcomings with a jigsaw, I will probably use these cut-outs as experimental, and once I have finally decided on the layout, get the panels professionally cut. I would like to use a 2D Cad System to do this, and as hopefully this will be a one-off exercise, I have been looking at the free software available. I have narrowed the choice down to LibreCad (www.librecad.org) or DraftSight (www.3ds.com/products-services/draftsight-cad-software/). Does anyone have any experience of either of these packages ?
2. Rather than starting from scratch it would be good if anyone can let me have their existing layout in .dxf format, which I could then import into either of these packages, and manipulate to my layout.
3. I have used 2mm aluminium for these panels, but the Circuit Breakers I have bought (not cheap!) require 1.5mm to snap in. I have made a temporary plate for these, but am thinking of making the final panels in 1.5mm aluminium. Will this be strong enough ?
Any other comments/suggestions would be welcome.
TIA

Bob, If I figured out correctly 1.5 mm is about 0.060". That's pretty heavy. I'd look at using 0.40" That more than adequate. I have attached a picture and CAD drawing I did for mine plane. Looking at your panel you might have trouble with your stick hitting the panel when you go forward. I put an R.C. Allen grip on and was hitting the bottom of the panel. Had to cut 1/2' off of stick. The other thing I see might cause problems is the gauge holes, mainly the width between them. Put your gauges together and place a piece of 0.032" metal between them, then measure the width.

Thanks for sending me your .dxf files AirEupora, I'll have a go at importing them into the CAD packages I mentioned in my original post.
I take you point about spacing out the 57mm holes for the ASI, ALT, and Prop Controller. The Dynon Faceplates on the smaller Panel butt up nicely, but the Hole Cutting with my post drill is not so accurate, and I would need to enlarge and separate the holes if I was to use the Panel already cut, so a lesson learnt.

Hi AirEuropa, Can i ask how you did your writing on your sub panels as I'm at that stage and don't know how to get that "Professional" look.
Many thanks Frank, Kit 165

http://www.advantageavionics.com/laser_engraving.html
I made my panel and took it to an Radio shop in Calaveras, CA They had troubles with it and bought the one you see from the above company.
I have had to change a couple of names around and re-label then. I also didn't plan for the 406 ELT indicator.
I've attached what my panel looked like when it went to the radio shop with the plastic protection sheet still attach and after the paint and laser engraving. Then a picture of the hand re-labeling.
