Hello,

I am trying to install a King KY 197 radio in an aircraft. I have the installation instructions. The diagrams for making the connection harness show that shielded single-conductor cables should be used to connect the audio jacks to the radio, and that the shield for each cable should be connected to the "barrel" of the associated jack on one end and to a particular radio terminal on the other end. It seems logical to me that it would also be required to insulate the jack barrel from the panel it is mounted in, but I can find no instructions for this. Can anyone tell me if this is required?

Thank you

Jon Hornbostel

Absolutely recommended. There are lots of
installations not insulated with no perceived
problems . . . but it's easy to do from the
get-go . . .
