Found some droppings on the passenger shelf in my mono and a bit of head set nibbled, just cant fathom how it could have got in there. No issues for 5 + years n the hangar. Anyone else had this occur?

I can do one better than that: had a (I think) squirrel's nest under the baggage area, where one must have been hibernating for the winter inside my garage. Was quite a job to clear that out.
Also, before I had a cockpit cover, parked at the airport, I found a bird's nest with young ones on top of the oil reservoir.

Graeme,
When my Europa was still a mono I had some mouse incursions. They have no problem climbing up the mono and into the fuselage. Once in there, they can get into the cockpit through any number of ways. They are able to squeeze through very small openings. Openings which you would never think a mouse could go through. Depending on the configuration of your rudder and sternpost, they may enter through the tail as well.

I initially solved my problem through the use of poison placed at the corners of the hangar door along the walls. It is the first thing they encounter when they enter. I can see when the poison blocks have been chewed upon. This specific poison block causes the mouse or rat to become very thirsty so they depart the premises in search of water and die elsewhere. I don’t like poison, but it was that or traps. There’s no way to seal the main door to keep rodents out.

The final solution was when I converted to tri. No way they can get in to the aircraft now. But I still worry about them climbing the nose gear and getting into the engine where they can wreak havoc with wiring and hose.

Back in the day when my Classic was still a mono and unfortunately had to be parked outside under covers, I discovered a rodent nest consisting of grass and blue foam pieces next to the fuel cock in the tunnel. The little blighter seemingly gained access by shinning up the outrigger leg, or the rope connecting the outrigger hinge to the ground anchor, scampered along the aileron push-rod tunnel while appreciating the abundance of blue nesting material under its paws and selected a convenient central location to set up residence.

By the time that I became aware of its property development scheme, a considerable excavation in the blue foam had been achieved about halfway along the push-rod tunnel. However the furry squatter must have scarpered, perhaps while the aircraft was in flight, so I was never able to give it a piece of my mind. The repair involved removing the wing to gain access by means of "keyhole surgery" techniques and the underside of the wing still has a slight ripple in the skin, bearing witness to an unintended slight exotherm from resin too generously applied using a home-made bamboo syringe.

You have my sympathy and may I propose that you enlist the services of a cat.

Can't speak from Europa experience (I am still building), but having worked for Fokker in Product Support, this is not new. We once had a Fokker 70 flown back from Indonesia. The books were in boxes in the aisle, and when inspected in Amsterdam were found to have been chewed on by a rat. Back in Jakarta they swore the books had been in good nick when they were put on board. Good chance the rat was therefore (still) on the plane. Problem is that like all rodents the buggers have a particular affinity for wiring insulation. The whole plane had to be fumigated, stripped and inspected just in case.

Not saying you should do that, but it may well be worthwhile checking where it could have been and have a good look there.

I've had acorns in the wing before now (in the control runs, which could have turned "interesting"!) and had to turn the wing on its spar-end to shake them out.
Mice can get in up the tailspring and through appertures in the fin area; I routinely block gaps around the tailspring with a rag when hangared. Also block the anti-servo tab operating-arm appertures with bits of ply shaped to fit those holes, which serve as a control lock.
I've found dead mice in the wheel fairings, so tri-gears aren't immune, but from this point they can get no further in to the 'plane.
Mouse poison seems to be a waste of time, they just eat it (or drag off the whole packet) and come back for more, including helping themselves from boxes of unopened poison.

All interesting. I was wondering where he could have got in. Little critter. I have bought an ultrasonic deterrent, some poison and traps and i'll think about making up some wooden baffles (but there is a risk I will forget to remove before flight!!!!). The plane is in a hangar in a field, there is nothing for them to eat in it so its about warmth and nesting. There was as a plastic bag of tissues where it had been - comfy nesting.
We get them in our house loft some years. It's a particular time of the year and also nothing up there to eat. We sort them with some peanut butter on sprung traps sorts and then nothing until the next year.
