I bought a part completed Europa Classic high top some years ago and am now in the pre flight inspection stage. My inspector wants to check the angle of incidence of the wings but as the plane is painted and internally completed
I have no reference plane to check the angle of incidence against. Don't
really want to remove the upholstery or paint (but will do as a last resort)
and therefore any suggestions on how to check the angle of incidence would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Phil,

Quote:
From memory the port door recess is the reference plane so no dismantling
required. See Chapter 27 Step 1 of the builders manual.

OOPS, missed the point about the high top! Yes, I see your problem.

I too have the high top. The only place that will work is the top of the fuel tank between the two head rest. You will need the Template or make it. Then read and Chapter 27.

Phil,

How about getting a couple of builders without Hi-Top to check how closely their flat areas between the headrests compare with their left door sills for an alternative reference? I have thin upholstery glued on mine, so the result should be much the same as measuring on the bare surface.

Phil,

Wing incidence is set 2.5 deg relative to the port door recess for the standard build.

Using dimensions from the build manual and Mod 64, Hi Top, the piece that is inserted extends from the firewall (station 30) to station 155, so it is 125 inches long. At the front it raises up 2.75 inches. That calculates to be 1.25 deg. So if you measure incidence relative to the door recess on your high top it should measure 2.5 + 1.25 or 3.75 deg.

I think this is likely more exact than using the fuel tank top since that is dependent on how the cockpit module was installed and fits in the fuselage bottom.
