Has anyone got some good tips on how to remove the wheel bearing races from the wheel hubs on a CJ6?

I noticed the the inside of the hubs don't have any relief cuts in them to allow a drift to sit nicely up against the back of the race.

There's a trick on the web which involves running a bead of weld round face of the race which once cooled contracts and it will simply fall out. (Not sure about trying it though).

The inner main wheel bearings simply pulled off the axles so no issues there.

TIA

Can't help with that, Harv.

Further to your question earlier on in the year about a suitable licenced engineer, we ended up taking JSA to North Weald Flying Services. In theory, it should be ready by Friday so a three week turnround. Their Chief Engineer put a couple of Changs on the UK reg many years ago so he's familiar.

Harv,Actually running a pair of 1 inch beads on the race works very well.  I have done it many times.   I do not know of any other way to get the job done.

Gents thanks for the replies.

Jay-Dub, thanks for that lead and hope to see you flying soon.

I've found a way forwards and hope to be flying in June.

Doug, thanks for confirmation on the welding trick, that's how I will proceed.

Cheers

Harv

Heat the hub to max. 200 Deg C and I am sure the races drop out.

One other thing that worked was to put the wheel (no tire or tube) in a
large pot of boiling water, one of mine dropped out and the other required
light taps.
