Fellow Europaphiles,
For all you 914 owners who were not able to acquire one of the Billet mechanical fuel pumps, don’t feel bad. My pump lasted about 100 hrs before developing a significant leak back into the gearbox and thence into the sump. It’s quite a surprise when you burp the engine to check the oil level and you have to remove about a pint of stinky, fuel-contaminated oil from the reservoir.
Since the unit is not supported I am returning to the two electrical pump configuration as per ROTAX installation instructions (914 Installation Manual Page 84). I have been collecting the bits and pieces of hardware and fuel injection hose and will spend tomorrow putting it all back as per the manual.
Looking forward too seeing Y’all in about 6 weeks at AirVenture!
Blue skies & tailwinds,
Bob Borger

Dear Bob
How about trying the Colombian set up. Essentially this is the 912 mech pump with an electric boost pump with the pressure regulated by the rotax regulator. The new mech pump will sustain 27-30".

Will,
I can understand the principle. It is something to consider. The big issue will be running the low pressure fuel line from between the gascolator and electric pumps forward to the mechanical pump.

Well ive flown 600 hours on this set up in a savannah. So far so good. Never really thought about the possibility of the mech pump starving the electrical pumps but i see what youre saying. Hasnt happened so far.
Its a common set up here. My engine is a turbo 912 which i normally run at 33". There are folk here who run these at 37 or higher. They use the same fuel set up.
It only needs one electrical pump btw. I will probably remove my second pump in due course.
