Hi,
The aircraft is undergoing an inspection. With a hydraulic mule connected, landing gear retracts and extends normally as do the speed brakes. Flaps were extended with the normal system but we cannot retract them. Stabilizer is trimming normally for the 0, 15, and 30 position but the flaps won't retract. Both front and back buttons have the same effect.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Richard

Have you drained the emergency extension valve in the right wheel well?
If yes, micro switch in wing root is stuck.

Hi Again,
I'm not 100% sure I follow what you mean by a stuck micro switch. I have drained the emergency line in the right wheel well.
The right wing root has 3 micro switches...one being 0, the other which is currently pushed in for lack of better words being 30. The flaps are currently at 30. The third micro switch is in the middle of the track from underneath and it also is pushed in with a tab. The switches that are not in use at the moment move freely.
The left wing root only has two, one being 0, the other 30.
In the front cockpit I have the 0 and 30 flap lights illuminated and in the rear only the 30.
Also I have used the HYD dump valve after which you can hear some bubbling, etc. When I go to check the fluid in the tank, it appears pressurized. Loosen the cap and fluid starts pouring out.
Thanks for any help you could give.
Richard

If the flaps 0 green light is on the system thinks the flaps are up. That is the issue. Have you put a long screw driver in there and made sure the 0 micro switch is popped out?
Try to push it in all the way and then pry it out all the way if it doesn’t come out by itself. Should be an audible click in both directions.
Have to ask, did you check the circuit breaker switches? No offense.
Are any of the flap selector buttons stuck in the down (pushed) position?
One other question, in the right wheel well on some models, there are 2 drain valves. One is near the leading edge the other is straight up above the tire. In
other models there is only one and that model will have a handle with a red knob on it below the throttle on the side wall. What have you got?
The one above the tire is the flap drain.

Thanks Bill,
All breakers appear good and the buttons are functioning normally.
This airplane has the single drain valve in the wheel well along with the red handled dump valve in the cockpit.
The micro switches appear to work and the spring feels quite strong when you press in on the switch. I will try again and see if I can hear the clicks. I should probably pull the plug off and check them with a meter.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Thanks,
Richard

I had that problem on my L-29. They would work when I had a high power setting. Turned out to be a weak amd worn out hydro pump

Hi Bill,
Well we found the micro switch that wasn't working. Next to impossible to remove so we sprayed it with cleaner and been exercising it regularly. It now appears to be consistently working. Time will tell...
One more question...does the 2.6l of fluid for the emergency side come from the main hydraulic tank, or are the accumulators filled separately somewhere with fluid? Does this happen with the Accu Fill lever or is that air only?
Multiple manuals but no real concise answer.
Thanks,

Always the micro Sw.
Normal system fills all. Make sure tank is full. Might take a long time to bleed off pressure.
Fill it up within in an inch of the top of the filter screen.
Run the engine at 80% and hold that handle while actuating the speed brakes. Let the hyd pressure gauge go all the way up and back to zero,
then retract the speed brakes and let the needle go up then back to zero while holding the handle forward. Takes about 4-5 times/ Never let go of the handle,
I might suggest that when servicing the hydraulic system at the annual inspection, be sure the accumulators have the nitrogen pre-charge of 50 ATM in each bottle.
Bottles must be completely empty of pressure before checking pre-charge. Open flap extension emergency valve and drain completely until accumulator pressure is zero.
Lots of fluid and air out the right wing drain valve.

Bill,
Also found have to emergency extend flaps and gear to get all fluid out before checking accumulator pressure. Just the flaps leaves fluid in the bottles and you get an inaccurate reading reading on one bottle. Just my 2 cents worth
