There were (are?) two things originally in that location in the 50. The 400Hz inverter for the Artificial Horizon and also the Flight Data Recorder, which was used to determine wing lifetime cycles. I believe the plug in question was for the latter. Of course the battery is also there, but the wiring for that is pretty obvious.
