We're about to go for a B&C conversion into our Yak-52. Our mechanic, who has done several conversions ( but all EFIS!) is concerned that the B&C 35amp alternator may not be able to cope with the draw from the Russian horizon. We have one fitted in the front only.

Any experience of this please, with either Yak or CJ?

I run that Alternator in a CJ with both front and back AH's fully operational .... never had an issue.

The original mechanical voltage regulator and horizon draw 3.6A (on startup a bit more)
You can save 1 amp by using an electronic voltage supply for the horizon. The turn/bank also runs on that 3 phase voltage from the regulator.
The electronic one also weighs less.
