All Yak 52 owners, I recently made an inquiry to see if there are any Yak parts left at the factory in Romania. I received the following response:
The news is not good from our friends from the next door. They do not have any kind of parts for Yak-52. More than this, they destroyed the jigs and the fixtures and now they are not able to manufacture spare parts for Yak-52 airplanes. The same situation is with FESTIVAL airplane. The plant where was made the Yak-52 is totally changed. A lot of CNC routers machines are installed on the place where the general assembling of the airplanes was. Today there they manufacture parts for AIRBUS.

How bizarre... destroying fixtures and jigs ... instead of putting them up for auction ... how odd ...

They just don't understand Capitalism and how to make a buck out of old stuff. That's why we're flying old, headed for the boneyard/scrapyard aircraft and for the fine folks we have supplying and supporting us in parts.

Hey Greg;
Maybe they understand capitalism very well. Why bother with a buck from old stuff you can get a million from new.

What are we talking about here? Wing panels, vertical or horizontal stabilizer, engine parts or flight controls? If the warbird community can build a mustang from just a data plate, why not a simple Y-52? I have seen nothing on the CJ or Yak that is anymore exotic than a beefed up Cessna. Yes gentlemen all it takes is money and time. Mostly time. Maybe its time for someone out there who isn't over the hill, to look at a small market opportunely for a steady income. A good tin-smith is all we need.

Yes, earlier this year, Aerostar, of course the manufacturer of all 52s asked Aerometal, my partner in Hungary if they could make 10 sets of new engine mounts for the 52, but of course lacking the original jigs. We worked out a way that this could be done, and they then went rather quiet!

Group,
The phone calls, texts and e-mails are coming in off of George's
announcement. Relax. Yes, it is a shame if they destroyed the jigs and
begs the questions of why they did not inform George that this was going to
happen. It doesn't matter because it doesn't change the outcome. Piper did
the same thing as I recall Clyde Smith - the Cub Doctor - telling me. I
live at an airport where 1000s of WWII aircraft were chopped into bits by a
huge guillotine and smelted. Aircraft are still be chopped to bits here,
albeit airliners.
We have been informing our customers since October 2015, that production had
ceased on the Yak 52 and they were no longer supplying airframe parts.
Additionally, we have been manufacturing parts for the Yak 52 for quite some
time and working collectively with others, who also manufacture parts.
Beginning in 1992, when Carl (Hays) started importing on the West coast, we
accumulated a lot of parts with an eye to the future and when this day might
come. Working exclusively on these aircraft and engines, we know the
consistent failures and where to direct our resources.
The latest part that we have duplicated, in whole, is the cowl lord mount
bushings for the Yak 52. A seemingly inconsequential part, but in actuality
it is very important for the proper fit and sealing of the engine cowl. One
thing that people should realize is that our aircraft are considered "low
volume" when we walk into a machine shop and request a part to be
manufactured. Most often, we have to meet a minimum that forces us to hold
inventory on our end. We currently manufacture hundreds of parts for the
Yak 52 and M-14P. We will continue to do so, as our complete dedication is
to keep our customer in the air.
If you are interested in what we are doing, visit our Facebook Page: M-14P,
Inc. I post a lot of what is currently happening, there.
In my opinion, what we are seeing is a market shift where many of these
aircraft were purchased at "fire sale" prices in the 90's and now they will
become limited and collectible. The aim is to keep them affordable.

Hey Jill,
Yours is an important post for the Yak community and I for one truly
appreciate what you and Carl are doing to keep us "in the air".
"Us" includes the less talked about Yak 55 and Yak 55M guys.
Best regards
Royden
