Attached is an article not yet published in the Europa Flyer that shows a modification that allows easy removal of the carb bowls on 914 engines equipped with the old style drip trays that are secured under the carb mounting bolts. Having this mod in place saved many hours this summer when I had a carb bowl gasket sealing problem!

Here I use this all the time and so does many others. No mods necessary. This works even with the stock Rotax airbox.

Roger,
This works fine for the 912 as shown. The early 914 engines were fitted with a massive drip tray which prevents loosening the screw on the carb socket to enable removal of the carb. Also the turbo airbox is quite rigid due to the hose from the turbo. And the 914 bowl is held in place with a bolt, not a spring bale. Trust me, I have tried to get the bowls off in the field and have never been able to.
With the modified drip tray, it is easy to remove.

Hi Jim. Yes I agree the later design made it a lot easier. After reading your article I got my drip bowls modified to make things easier in the future. Many thanks
