I heard a hissing, evil, leak of air when I selected my parking brake yesterday. If I release the parking brake, the leak stops. I can apply full brakes with no leaking air coming from the brake cylinder that is under the pilot seat on the right side. However, if I squeeze the paddle hard enough to set the parking brake, the leak starts. Any ideas?

when this happened to me is was the rubber grommets in the brake proportioning valve. they flex a little every time the rudder pedal moves and eventually chafe and leak...

I had this exact same issue today when I put the parking brake on for preflight. Brake on, hiss under the rear floorboard, brake off, no hiss. I still have brakes on each side, it's just constantly bleeding down while the brake is applied. What did your issue end up being?
I know there's a brake valve, pressure reducer, and distribution valve in there from the schematics, but I'm unsure where they are or what the most likely culprit might be.
Any help or ideas would be very appreciated!

You are speaking about the brake reducing valve which is under the right
floor panel in the rear cockpit. That is where the leak is coming from
when the brake handle is squeezed or locked for the parking brake.
Remove the floor panon the right in the rear cockpit. Follow the brake
cables to the brake reducing valve. Remove the two 17mm B nuts from the
brake reducing valve. Then remove the two mounting bolts with an 8 mm,
1/4 drive socket and ratchet. Call Doug Sapp, the CJ parts supplier. He
has overhaul kits for them.

If you're talking about a CJ-6 - - -Since your brake handle is only working the QS1 valve, most likely that is where your leak is. It just may need to be overhauled. Sapp has a kit for that. Check that first.

I forgot to mention the brake reducing valve is the unit in the upper
right corner of the photo. Look at the shape. That's what you'll be
removing.

Contact Doug Sap and get rebuild kits for both valves. The valves are located under the floor. Follow the linkage from the rudder pedals to the distribution valve and the piping to the pressure reducing valve.

In the CJ the brake pressure reducing valve is located, as Frank noted,
below the floor. It is accessed from a two Dzus panel on the bottom of the
center section left of center. In fact it is in exactly the same location
as the brake system water drain (snot) valve which is, of course, checked on
a regular basis.
Cheers;
Walt

Forgot to mention that if you find any water here it is way past time to
service your water filter.
Also; Had to go to the Forum to find the original post on this subject
from Dan Booker. He said it is a CJ and the leak is on the RH side! That
is the proportioning valve location though a leak there may be more likely
to show up with rudder bar movement.

Thanks everyone for the replies, and that is indeed the area where my hissing is coming from. I'll check it out and get a rebuild kit!
FYI, this is for a YAK 52.

And my comments were for a CJ since the only info I could find indicated CJ. Would be nice to know which aircraft you are trying to diagnose.

Totally agree Walt. When I read "under the floor", I assumed it was a Yak 52 because that is where the brake reducing valve is located in the Yak 52.

I got the floor panel off and the leak is coming from a port on the valve in the right bottom of Dennis' photo. There's a male threaded port on bottom that does not have an air line attached, and when I apply the parking brake, air continuously comes out that port.
If the reducing valve is in the top right of the pic, what is this valve? Strange that it blows out that open port. I'm assuming it is there for a reason and doesn't need capped.
Thanks for the help!

Remove the brake reducing valve and either replace it or rebuild it. That should fix your problem.

Thanks Dennis, so this is the reducing valve? You had said the reducing valve was in the upper right of your picture, and this is in the lower right, so just confirming before I buy a replacement (noone seems to have kits right now).

Yes, the brake reducing valve is in the upper right of the cut-away drawing I sent you. The other two components are the brake disabling solendoid (lower right) and the brake differential valve (left side).
When you said "no one seems to have kits right now", I'm assuming you did check with Doug Sapp, the CJ parts supplier?
