While at Sun-N-Fun this year, I was able to talk to Bud Yerly about many topics as he has been there and done that. I then went to the manufacturer’s reps at the show and purchased replacements for my Whelan wing tip lights. They were the easiest to change. I measured the current draw directly at the battery with an inline amp meter. Before I changed, both wingtip nav lites drew 6.25 amps. After I replaced both the red and green lites and both white lites. After the replacement I measured only 0.56 amps!
I run with the Jabiru, so the alternator doesn’t put out until I reach a higher rpm level. So I feel this will really help in saving my battery in the future.
I replaced my lites with those manufactured Aero-Lites. I paid $86 for all four LED replacement lites. So if you are in the same situation, think about this inexpensive option. Visit their website for other options they make.
