Im getting fuel fumes in the cockpit in my stock CJ with stock motor. I don’t smell anything during ground operations or when full throttle ops on take off. When I get to about 4000 feet and open the throttle all the way I start smelling gas. When I back off to less than full throttle or about 3/4 throttle the smell seems to go away. Opening and closing the canopy doesn’t seem to have much effect on the fumes. The fumes aren’t overwhelming... but they do persist and seem to be associated with full throttle.
I removed the cowling; washed the engine and then had someone pressurize the fuel system using the wobble pump while I inspected the engine compartment looking for leaks... nothing. There was a slight hint of fuel vapors around the bottom of the carb but nothing too strong and certainly no dripping.
I’m open to any suggestions and even guesses at this point.

Pull the belly panels and carefully examine the fuel sump tank for leaks. Water will migrate to the sump and cause corrosion.

You may also want to pull the wing root covers and see if the line from the tank to the fuselage is seeping.

Jon;
Sounds like possibility of a vent system problem. Check the wing joint
connections as Phil has suggested and check for blockage of the inlet.
The highest point of the system is right beside your left shoulder. A
corrosion pin hole here could be the source.
