Hey Gang,
I may be the last one to learn about this but I recently found this great weather tool which fits the type of weather flying we are commonly preflighting.
Originally the tool was designed by the National Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in 2006 for the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services industry, the “HEMS Weather Tool” The HEMS Tool was developed for helicopter, the Helicopter Emergency Services Tool however is very applicable to airplane, helicopter, glider, ultralight, balloon, or UAS, for flights that routinely fly off airport below 5,000 feet.
Check it out: https://www.aviationweather.gov/hemst
There is also an upcoming WINGS webinar you can attend to learn more about it as well. To register go to: https://www.faasafety.gov/SPANS/event_details.aspx?eid=85826 AND you can get WINGS credit for attendance.
I hope this is a useful post.
Fly Safe.
