Manual choke...attaches there..
Interestingly I took the semi enclosure off of the James Tripp Firestar II and am pondering a similar notion..The problem I see with the very simple Firefly design on the FSII is the fuselage angle change near the front seat..
About a hundred bucks is the usual cost of making the Firefly semi full enclosure. Quite simple to do..Build the bow and supports then lay the lexan over the nose cone and the bow...mark the cuts and get rid of the excess so the sheet is easier to handle..cut it with straight tin snips..good pair.Once the fit is established, then use an angle grinder to smooth the edges...attach the rubber weather seal to the front with black 3m weather sealant..I think that is what it is called ...nasty stuff...so dry fit the rubber seal and run masking tape just above to protect getting the goo where it is not wanted..Remember that the canopy is not attached anywhere save the angle aluminum on the left side..angle al that runs along the top longeron..also attach to the nose cone..but no further than about 10 am so the canopy can be raised to get in...lastly attach the second angle al to the right side of the lexan , running front to the end of the lexan...to that angle in the front ...attach a tab to which you have welded a tapered rod of an inch or so...then drill a hole in the tab that holds the nose cone ..the tapered rod slides in there for the lexan sheet will flex enough to allow it to fit..make a latch near the rear...and some sort of rod to hold the canopy up when entering...I did not and simply allow my head to hold it open for entry and exit on one build but added the rod on the second...
Clear as mud??? Pics enclosed..also one of my mountain bike brake assy..and I kept making axle attach brackets til I got the wheels to stand tall and not splayed...though they may look splayed in the pics... Remember also that the canopy needs to clear the wing leading edge...a little trimming may be necessary.. Gear legs were straight...
I say semi/full for it is not total but very good for the purpose given the need to hold weight. Last time I bought a 1/16th(do not think it was 1/32 nd? ) inch sheet of lexan , it was in the 70 to 80 dollar range..and the aluminum bow was from scrap and the angle that ridges the top of the fuselage from the instrument panel to the back was from the salvage yard.. By the way, I passed my supplier, then Bruce Plastic in Gallatin,Tenn.. on to Travis..while it was not convenient , he used their prices to leverage better ones from his supplier...

does anyone know what purpose this tab serves. I plan to cover this into a full canopy and it will be in the way. My thought is to cut it off.

Here are the ones for the Firefly:
Start with a set of cheap bicycle brakes, something like these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AVID-BB5-Mountain-Bike-Bicycle-Mechanical-Disc-Brake-caliper-Front-Rear/183557470162?hash=item2abce0b7d2:g:124AAOSwa3lb3K5l
Then you have to fabricate a way to attach them to the wheel. These were not too hard, and they fit on the wheels from an original Firestar, which is what our FF uses.
The you weld a couple of bracket tabs to the lower landing gear leg fitting that the calipers will float around in. Works really well.
And if you put a little loop in the end of the handle, a small bungee cord works for a parking brake.

Full Enclosure, I went the ridiculous route and ordered one from Kolb.
Not a stitch of information on how to install, One of the hoops was too long but I did not figure that out until I had the rivets in the brackets. But all is well now.
I was surprised at how small my space became. Down right claustrophobic.
It has been to windy and snowy to try out so far.
I thought it might be easier to get in and out of as the plastic by the dash board comes up giving a bit of clearance for my feet but the bar by my shoulder makes it harder than it was. seems like you need to be a nine year old gymnast to get in now.
I would love to see a video of how to do it gracefully with the full enclosure on a Firefly...

You think it’s tight on a Firefly? You ought to try it on a original Firestar. I think it’s 20 inches wide at the rear of my windshield. It doesn’t take long to get use it.
At almost 72, I considered it yoga trying to get in and out. I don’t have the rear hoop that you have. I built my own enclosure.
Works great, you’ll enjoy it.

No wonder it takes yoga to get in and out of it.
If my airplane was upside down, it would take more than yoga for me to deal with it...

Your enclosure without the surround tubing looks great. Just before I went to the full enclosure I made a taller windshield , about 6 inches taller. The top wanted to buckle down when up to speed , I had to add an aluminum strap around the back edge and ran two from that down to the dash. That extra six inches of windshield alone made a huge difference in the wind. I'm looking forward to trying out this full enclosure.

I’m in process of doing a redesign of my windshield. It works great inflight, but it shakes around to much when I’m taxiing on rough grass strips. Basically the same, but a canopy design that flips open to the side.
