I would like to get a survey from this savvy group on the merits or not of roller tappets for a Titan Lyclone 160hp O-320. This is a new engine which I’m ordering for my experimental W-10 Tailwind. I live in Michigan and the airplane will sit for up to 3 winter months without flying. Annual flying hours will be fairly low, around 50. Will be operated mainly on 94NL av gas, Phillips X/C oil and possibly Camguard. It can be ordered with a choice of roller tappets or conventional hydraulic tappets.
Not looking to start a “primer war”. Just looking for some experienced input.
I would also like input on any experience with Titan’s NiC3 cylinders.
Thanks,
Eric

FWIW, I added the roller tappets and the NiC3 cylinders to my engine order.
I went out to the hangar yesterday and everything was wet due to 100% relative humidity. The wing, the floor, everything was so wet that water beaded up wherever I touched a surface. It was IFR and perfect icing conditions so a no flying day. I figure this engine needs these options due to extended unplanned activity sitting in my unheated hangar. I’m getting these options to help protect against rust, not to increase the power or decrease friction. I was hoping to hear of others’ experience with these options.
FYI, Harrison Engine Service, the aircraft cylinder shop, told me that their shop is unable to re-hone NiC3 cylinders as they are too hard. If they ever get to the point where they need it, they can’t be fixed.
