My first instinct was right; It was a beaker but not the field as I thought, after the extra work of removing the cowl and inspecting the engine/alternator without finding a cause I checked voltage directly on the primary bus while running the engine; voltage was 14+. I knew that charging data came from the GRT EIS and was transmitted to the Chelton and GRT Sport via RS232 data. What I did not notice was that while running the engine that amps were still displayed normally on the Sport but both primary and secondary bus voltages were displaying battery voltage. When I noticed this anomaly I correctly deduced that the master avionics breaker which electrically unites the busses had failed. A 15 minute replacement and all was well.
