I’m doing some research before a trip to make a presentation at the Nanchang factory and am wondering who had a reliable figure for number of Nanchangs in the US and Canada. Who have been the main importers over the years?

I would have thought that a global figure would be even more interesting! For whatever reason, in Europe, the Yak 52 is far more popular, and I suspect that there are less than 10 Nanchang in Europe. However, I will speak to a couple of people who I feel will give me a fairly accurate figure. But then there are significant numbers in Australia and also some in New Zealand.

Will a CJ fit in a shipping container with the wings off? A Yak50/52 will but the wings detach at the fuselage.
Other than geography, that could be the reason as it increases the expense.

My aircraft was shipped directly from China in a 40 foot high top container. Using a high top container is more expensive. The wings were removed and the fuselage was rotated 90 degrees. It was then mounted in a poorly-welded, angle iron support structure. The horizontal stabilizer/elevator still extended above the top of the container and the entire container was covered with canvas. The canvas was ripped during transit which allowed salt water to enter, but there was no real damage except when the stabilizer hit a low bridge somewhere between Long Beach and Chicago. Just the tip was smashed. Fortunately, insurance addressed the damage.
