Hi Group
Curiosity question: Can you reuse Binx Nuts for engine mounting? If the answer is yes, is it recommended to bend the inboard sides of slit steel nuts to close up slit to get back any lost tension from 1st use?
I see on the Rotax 914 that they use a similar nut for exhaust manifold studs, only they have 1 slit instead of 2. Same question, can you reuse these? If yes is it recommended to bend the inboard sides of slit stainless steel nuts to close up slit to get back any lost tension from 1st use?
Thx.

Binx Self Locking Nut
The Binx Nut is an all metal prevailing torque type self-locking nut. The locking action is provided by two slots cut into the side of the nut which locally changes the pitch. When tightened onto a bolt this change in pitch results in the nut threads gripping the flanks of the bolt thread resulting in a locking action.
One advantage of the Binx nut is that its height is no greater than a standard nut so that it can be used in confined spaces. The finish on the nuts is BZP (Bright Zinc Plating). The nut can be re-used and still maintain a locking action. To achieve the full locking action of the nut it is recommended that at least two bolt threads should protrude through the top of the nut.
