Greetings Pulsar Community,
I recently spoke with an individual that has replaced his 582 Rotax engine on his ultra light with the four stroke Rotax 600 ACE engine.
This gentleman used the Rotax C gear drive as the propeller speed reduction unit which he said fit perfectly.
The Rotax 600 ACE engine weighs 88 pounds. It has two cylinders and provides 57 hp.
The Rotax 900 ACE engine weighs in at 123 pounds, has 3 cylinders, and 59 hp but with the turbo charger it produces 171 hp.
The turbo 900 listed on Rotax's Power Train Details web page listed the weight of the turbo 900 engine as 273 pounds but for some reason they have added the weight of the transmission to the total and the picture provided shows the turbo model with trans attached.
This information can be found by typing in on Google , Rotax Power-trains Details. You will then see the proper link to select.
Both the 600 and 900 ACE engines were built for snowmobile operations just as the 582 was.
I would like to hear what you all think about these engines as a four stroke option to the 582.
I am aware that Rotax made some changes to the 582 in order to label it as an aircraft engine but I truly feel that the 600 and 900 ACE engines could be a viable option for those that desire a four stroke power plant in Lighter sport aircraft such as the Original Pulsar and some other Ultra Light type aircraft.
The cost of these engines new are on par with a new 582 from what I have read so far. I priced a slightly used 600 ACE engine this morning at $1,900 with free shipping anywhere withing the continental Unite States.
I hope everyone is doing well and that you all have a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving Holiday.
Sincerely,
Clyde Oyler (Yellowhammer)
