|
|
As was encountered by some US builders, the thicker MG spar mod interferes with the mono's flap drive tube.
Now that the MG wings have been approved in Britain, has the factory created a new tube shape which accommodates the thicker spars? If so, what might the part number and ballpark price be?
Many thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete
I have the first of those parts. It was roughly the same price as the original part (about $150) and in theory is the same part number as it now replaces the original part. However, two notes of caution:
1. I haven’t fitted it all together to be sure that the new geometry actually operates the flaps and clears the spar.
2. Europa told me it was being hand produced from a drawing by a subcontractor. There were shall we say, a few delays and confused messages, in actually extracting the final part from Europa.
Kind regards
Richard

Hi Pete
I have an XS Mono A-265. It has an accelerated cockpit module. I can assure you that it's not possible to have a solid pushrod work with both wings on my bird. I dealt with problem by installing a cable:

In addition due to location my fuel tank is situated it's not possible to fit the larger spar. The fuel tank would need to be ripped out and re-positioned to use full size spar. I will deal with that by making a new spar mold to fit my bird that is a tiny bit narrower. Ron P.

Hi Pete Just to clarify, spar needs to be a little narrower in height, not width.

Thx Ron for the detailed description.
I would also like to hear how the factory has done it since their approval of the long wings. As per Richard’s reply, the factory does have a new pushrod, and i wonder how they solved the interference issues you have described.
Pity they don’t monitor this group.
Cheers
Pete
First flights of re-badged C-GNPZ today. What a fun machine!

Pete,
We replaced the FL20 tube with a push pull cable a year ago. The cable gives clearance for the taller MG spars. Actually the cable works better than the tube since our tube rubbed in the fuselage.
