It is a very sad duty for me to report that Nigel Graham died last night. He will be sorely missed by his family, his friends and by the Europa community. For those privileged to know him he was simply one of the nicest persons imaginable, always cheerful, knowledgeable and generous in giving his time and expertise to others. He made a major contribution to the Europa community with his work as Mods secretary and was also central to the major improvements to the club website and financial systems. His highly original ideas to produce a next generation Europa in the form of the Calypso were inspirational.
Nigel was unlucky enough to develop a rare and highly malignant form of cancer for which no treatment is available other than radical surgery. His tumour was so advanced that the prospects for cure were low, and he was told that the surgery would leave him significantly disabled but typically he elected to go ahead with it. He endured the procedure with great courage and had got to the stage of being optimistic, when tragically recurrence of tumour became apparent.
On behalf of the Europa Club let me say, “Thank you, Nigel and may you rest in peace.”

I’m stunned to hear this news.
While I may be a continent and an ocean away from the UK, I’ve always felt a kinship with him as we shared our deviations from the stock Europa-build and he was always so supportive of the minor mods I made during my build.
I say “minor” because they didn’t hold a candle to his work on Calypso; Nigel’s encouragement and insights always seemed to arrive at just the right moment.
I’ve been truly inspired by Nigel’s extraordinary contributions to the Europa community…I echo David by writing, “Thank you Nigel…and may you rest in peace.”

I’m greatly saddened to hear of the death of Nigel. He was a sterling individual who will be greatly missed by this community.
Our prayers go out for Nigel and to his family.

Nigel was always kind and helpful, on the few occasions when I sought his assistance. He'll be a hard act to follow by whoever takes up his mantle in the Europa family.

A sadly missed friend.
The Callisto project will continue. It will be adopted by Garry Carter.
The Modifications Officer role continues under the auspices of John Wighton.

Nigel Graham, what can I say: an inspired designer with a great knowledge and ability about all things composite (and more).
Always more than willing to share that knowledge and encourage others giving his time unselfishly to those who asked for it.
He gave excellent technical assistance and found parts for myself and another Europa pilot/builder when we had to repair some damage several years ago. He was and remained a good friend and source of knowledge, inspiration, great humour and banter hors pair.
My condolences go out to his family and friends.
He will be sadly missed.

A chapter ends and a new one begins. I’ve known Nigel for something like 25 years now. We first met through Gernot Schwetz, who
built a lovely Classic, I helped Gernot convert the Classic tailwheel to the XS style but retaining the original belcrank and rudder pushrod.
Nigel was working in Belgium at the time, on IT I think. He brought along some excellent Belgian beer. Gernot died some years ago after he
moved to Naples in Florida. We had some memorable long weekends at Steve Pitt’s place in Florida. I remember Gernot cooking some wonderful
fresh lobsters and teaching us how to chop onions without including finger ends in the meal!
I’ve watched the Callysto project since it’s very early days in the tiny garage in Chandlers Ford and wringing my hands every time LAA changed some
meinor requirement. “Nigel! Please don’t make the mistake I did! Not getting the Long EZ airworthy until I was too old to fly it.”
Nigel was still talking about modifying it yet again to fly with only one rudder pedal, that was only a few months ago. Now he will have to fly it sitting on the shoulder of
the final builder, please fly it soon, I’d love to see it fly. It is a work of art.
My condolences to Marie and their son Will and daughter Freya.
Graham

Nigel was always friendly, hospitable & generous with his time and attention.
Also a deep thinker who came up with his own considered opinions & solutions rather than following the herd.
This was my favourite posting (attachment) & illustrates that Nigel could talk the talk & walk the walk.

It was a privilege to know him.
