Just wanted to give the group a heads up about the step replacement. A little over 1,000 hours on my 7A and both steps are cracked!. Why they crack at the back of the step riser is baffling to me, I would have thought that the weld would have cracked as it bears the brunt of the weight and shock of getting in and out. What the heads up is all about is that while fitting the new Vans replacement steps the flat plate part did not fit flush with the fuselage like the original ones did. After a day of fussin and cussin I had a BFO (Bright Flash of the Obvious) and measured the round tube part. The original is 9 3/4" long measured along the top. The Vans replacement step tube is 10". There was my 1/4 gap !!!! I had to cut 1/4" off the tube to make it fit. Where is the Vans QC?
