While doing the annual on a 13 year old aircraft, I used a 1 inch tube to siphon out the fuel. I assume the large black rubbery deposit in the photo is part of the internal coating of the tank. Has anyone else had this problem ?
My concern is that the coating is degrading and the fuel will damage the fiberglass and also that the piece is large enough to wrap itself round the finger strainer in the tank.

I borescoped the tank and didn't see evidence of flaking although there were color variations
I have never had black deposits in the filters or drain

I know one locally which has the black coating failing in the tank. The owner wanted me to repair it, but I told him I couldn't do it until I finish building my house and hangar (multi-year project at this point). I suspect that aircraft is still grounded waiting for repairs. I have also had fuel tank issues, but mine is different. Don't let fuel get absorbed into the tank itself. It WILL cause major damage. The 2007 style airframes appear to have more of an issue then the 2000 style.
