Gday All,
I'm not flying a Kolb these days but still take an interest in the forum. I notice that traffic is getting pretty lean, and I don't know about you but I've about worn out Utube scrolling thro crap hunting for gems....
I keep seeing these same names for years, and wondering just where you are and what your flying patch and your flying life is like. So I've put together a blog of my patch here https://jgspatch.blogspot.com/ There's lots of flying adventures with hundreds of photos of trips around Australia and the Western USA. Come along for the ride without risking your butt....
I'm grounded here because the airfield I use in on water board land next to a water supply reservoir and they've grounded us.... Seems silly because there's pretty good personal distancing while flying solo and us old farts don't get real close to each other anyhow, but of course they had to close the camping and water sports and couldn't let us keep having fun....
Australia is coping fairly well with the virus, having taken it seriously early on, and our excellent national public health system is coping well. I was down to my last roll of toilet paper but yesterday the supermarket had stock on the shelves again so things are looking up. But not the economy, that's headed down the toilet and paper won't fix it....
So, while things are so quiet I'm looking forward to hearing about your 'patch'.

18KS is open every day but my Mk 3 is down for a rebuild. Hoping to get my
FIrestar flying first and then finishing the Mk 3, You know, so far as I
can see someone could repeat your trip across America, staying off the
beaten track and report on this time of pandemic. They haven't locked down
the midwestern states, YET.
Take care,
Rick

Hello John,
G'day from Colorado! I live near Denver and fly an Ultrastar out of Erie airport (KEIK). I would send the list a picture of my plane but don't know how...
I am a retiree and I'm returned to aviation last autumn after a 30-year lapse, and I spend most of my flying practicing tailwheel landings. Its challenging flying as my airfield is famous for crosswinds, but weather here is otherwise pretty good if a little cold. I fly using a snowmobile suit when its cold. Come summer (assuming lifting of COVID restrictions), I plan to do cross country flying to see the rest of the state - Colorado is really quite pretty. USA general aviation flying seems unaffected, but I only see solo flying being done, which is a good thing as its good social distancing.
In general, the USA did not take COVID seriously and now is a mess. We have the worlds highest COVID death toll. Some US cities ignored White House baloney and went under stay at home order much earlier - San Francisco did so in mid March and has stayed healthy. Like Australia, the US economic situation is pretty bad. Amazingly, a few US states are still 'open for business', which improves their economic situation some, but seems like insanity to me..
We still don't have toilet paper in stores here...Kudos to Australia for doing it right!

Jeff Craddock,
I see you are a guest. This forum is about Kolb aircraft and not for political comments. Please put your opinions about the White House on another forum.

Hi John,
What an amazing story you have and so much fun! Thanks for sharing it all. I have just finished building my Firestar II here in West Australia and am now test flying the 25 hours from our club field at Bindoon, a bit over an hour north of Perth. (https://superlight-aircraft-club-of-wa-inc.business.site/?m=true )
I had never had a chance to fly a FSII when I bought it at the factory, so it was fortunate for me that one of the very experienced and capable club members was my ‘test pilot’ for the first 5 hrs, as required by the RAAus.
I’m also prevented from flying because of the inter-regional travel restrictions, but making the most of it anyway by catching up with other things/projects at home.
I only have just a few hrs flight time on the FSII and just love the open air amazing view – like riding a motorcycle through the air.
Some photos attached, including the ‘alternative’ panel (and pink flying socks) which a friend of mine suggested J
Cheers
