So its called a Blower Breather in the various manuals but I am interested to find out exactly what it does. Is it open to atmosphere ... under the lamp shade type hood or is there some internal one way valve type system ? If so when would this work ?

There are a few task cards that mention oil being ejected through this breather under certain circumstances such as engine overheating or improper valve clearance.

actually, breather tube connects channels between shaft seal rings with atmosphere to let the blower breath a little bit of fresh air instead of sucking oil out of the sum through that seal
