What is the rough life of the Russian plugs? Or is it just a perpetual IRAN? How do you determine they need to be replaced?
Also the manual says the thread size is M14x1.25 but none of the thread chasers in that size I tried seem to work.

Look for a very worn ground element.

The reason you’re having difficulty cleaning the threads is because the Russian plugs do not fit flush with the combustion chamber. Thus the last hole threads tend to build up carbon which makes it difficult to clean the threads with the thread chaser. Plus the Russian plugs are a “cold” plug which you can clearly see when you pull the spark plugs and see the black soot around the insulator and firing element.

I had a similar issue with thread chasing on my plane. Once I ran the thread chaser through the hole all was well.. The thread chaser that Dennis referenced is the exact one I purchased on his recommendation.
Also, before you purchase a full set of russian plugs you may want to consider swapping over to the auto plug conversion. Worth every penny.
If you want all of the detail you can find a number of owners here that have the auto plugs and wires and love them.
Just a thought if you are about to purchase a bunch of new russian plugs, you may want to consider getting rid of the weak link in the ignition system and making your starts etc more reliable.
Now for the fish story. Since I put the auto plugs in I am flying 10 knots faster and cut my fuel burn by 30%....... none of which is true. It is just a more reliable system.

I was actually looking for a die to fix my original TDC tool which doesn't seem to want to go in to the cylinder more than a few threads.

Unsolicited reply.
Ask the M-14 owners who have switched to American made plugs and wires how many would switch back (especially the Russian wires and tubes) If given plenty of Russian plugs. Not many.
Identifying and replacing a bad wire is a PITA. The engine runs better, idles with incredible smoothness and is more reliable. You don't wear plugs out. You don't have to re-anneal copper gaskets. You do not clean them. You just replace them from Auotozone, or where-ever.
I believe I still have a set of 18 brand new Russian plugs. I need to put them up for sale!
Good luck with you timing tool. They can be less than ideal.

Yeah. I had that problem too with one of my 14 mm thread chasers. I actually found a set of thread files with the correct thread size which helped me repair the 14mm thread chaser. Here’s a single metric thread file.

I’m running my Yak with Russian plugs until engine overhaul time. My Sukhoi has western automotive conversion.
