If there is a fault that opens the fusible
link, then the alternator is isolated from
the ship's systems. While the field would
still be energized, the resulting condition
is internal to the alternator and not a
threat to the rest of the airplane.
If the regulator senses bus voltage through
the breaker, then you will depress bus voltage
by whatever drop occurs in the b-lead. Further,
the b-terminal to field breaker lead becomes and extension
of the bus and would need to get a fusible
link at the b-lead.
Presently, I see no particular advantage
for doing this.
