I recently replaced my windshield. The old was 13 years old and had a lot of crazing in the regular field of view, especially near the defrost outlet and all around the base. Besides, I was in the process of a major panel upgrade and it made access to some things a lot easier.
I bought a new windshield from Cee Bailey since I've always heard great things about their products.
The windshield R&R took about three days with two of us working on it. I had installed Van's forward access hatches which are pretty close to the base of the windshield. It takes a little fudging to get the fiberglass faring layups to clear the access holes. I made the bond to the cabin top using SilPruf silicone instead of Weld-On. All my other windows are installed using SilPruf and they've been flawless. The SilPruf worked great this time too.
CB says their RV-10 windshield fits without any trimming, and that is true. It just laid right where it was supposed to. No trimming required, which was welcome.
When we peeled the plastic off the Cee Bailey windscreen, it was pretty disappointing to see a LOT of distortion and general waviness in the plexiglass. A few pictures of the problem is all it took for them to send a replacement.
Here's a picture looking out of my hangar, from just outside the airplane:

Here's the same view looking through the new windshield:

Somehow it seems worse in the picture than in flight, although I do see things kind of jump around as they pass the distorted area. Certainly not acceptable.
The first thing I did when the replacement arrived was to take the plastic off and check it. The difference is night and day. The replacement is basically perfect.
I've installed several windshields and windows over the years, and it never occured to me to check them first. Peeling the fresh plastic off is always kind of a special event.
Anyway, just wanted to give the list a little review. Cee Bailey was reasonable about the replacement, but they drew the line at three days labor. At this point I just want to get past it and move on.
