Just for the record, my factory tanks in factory wings set off leaking only a few years after the completed build, 2007, I sealed and then had resealed following all the wisdoms recommended then. And new paint. The paint bubbled, broke open, ect. The leaks had continued. Knowing little, I suspect bad use of bucking bars during the factory build, something to do with bad riveting sent in the original quick build of the tanks/wings.
Now, my RV-10's tanks have been sent to someone who works with Mooney tanks and also RV-10s, I am starting over. new paint, new hope.
In reply to ideas above about alcohol in fuel, my IO-540 and all of the fuel system has never had anything but AVGAS. Forget the alcohol problem. What about where the landing gear is placed relative to weight distribution upon landings?? Sudden stress among the rivets, causing later bibbits? My much lighter RV-6A with a Lycoming 360 never had tank leak problems, and had well over 1,000 hours when I sold it. Or what about the quality of the factory wings and tanks supplied that were part of those kit build accelerators?
Just thinking in response. The RV-10 is a great one for many many reasons.

The problem with alcohol is if it gets its way to the pilot brain

st you can buy at the drug store is 91%, because it isn't economical to get t
he rest of the moisture out. After it sits in your tank, even in Arizona, fo
r a few days it is likely to be down to 70% or less. At those ratios it can s
tart corroding your aluminum. I don't know that proseal is all that alcohol r
esistant. Mooney puts a sealer over the proseal to protect it but you RV tan
ks are just straight proseal. Older versions of proseal would soften up a lo
t when exposed to mogas. I think the current stuff is okay with mogas, but s
till wouldn't use 91 or 93 pump gas unless it would be consumed in a single f
light, within a few days, whether it had alcohol or not.
