My Yak-18T has a mechanism on the RH landing gear that includes a spring loaded cartridge connected to the upper torque link that pulls on a crank as the shock strut piston is extended (unloaded) which, in turn, activates a micro-switch on the bottom of the strut cylinder. The switch appears to be set to activate at nearly full strut extension. None of my manuals show this installation or any associated rigging procedure. Neither the Flight Manual or System Description reference it either. Can anyone explain the function of this switch? Also, my spring loaded cartridge failed. I had a replacement fabricated, but would like to get an original part and the proper rigging instructions. Please let me know if you have any information on this mechanism. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
On aircraft with electrically operated gear, there is a "squat switch" on one leg which stops accidental retraction on the ground only allowing retraction when the weight is off the leg. What you are describing sounds very like a squat switch but with an air operated system - I can't see how could it work?
Someone out there will know! JB
