Hi guys,

After some hit and miss starting, I finally gave in and bought two new
ignition modules which I installed today.

Engine burst into life immediately upon starting.

The only problem is that when I do a 'mag' check, the engine runs fine
on one 'mag/module' but the engine stops when I switch to the other.

I will recheck my wiring of course particularly yellow and white wires
to the ignition coils (which I had to think about which was which but
I'm pretty sure I got them going to the correct white wires coming out
of the coils).

I have the 'old style' 4-pin plug modules.

I'm open to ideas on what else I might check.

regards,

Definitely a wiring problem....unless the new module is duff. Earth problems are a favorite......maybe try switching around the modules and see if it replicates. Good Luck

Kind Regards

Hi Martin. I have the same 4 pin modules and had a similar problem. When I changed to one of the circuits my 914 ran rough. I bought the new ignitech modules and still had the same issue. The only way I rectified it was to buy new rotax modules. What I did find out during my investigations was that the ignition modules are wired up to the coils differently for a rotax 912 then a 914. On a 912 A module runs 2 upper and 2 lower plugs but on the 914 module A runs all the top plugs and B runs all the bottom.

Martin,
I had the same problem. Bought expensive new modules and after a lot of messing about - it was the stator that was defective!!

Swap the red wires over - if the problem changes from L to R (or R to L) - stator fault. Also try the same on the pickups.

Process of Elimination
