So i replaced my Airtrac 7.00 with an 8.00 during my frame repair, and am very happy with the larger tire. Better deck angle for landing, greater prop clearance, better on grass i imagine, no clearance or rubbing issues (i did however trim the throttle box a bit of excess height).
I do remember folks complaining about swing-arm rubbing, but I've not had any. Just a tiny but of caliper rubbing with new pads. Yet everyone appears to be running the 7.00 these days?
curious…..
Cheers,

Pete,
When we started our test flying we had the 8.00 tire that came with the kit. We also used 18 psi as per the manual.
When we did testing at 1450 and 1500 lbs, bolts on the brake caliper rubbed the side of the tire, made a nice round groove in the sidewall! Hence the change to 7.00!
We never tested the 8.00 tire with more than 18 psi. Perhaps it's fine with higher pressure.

Indeed I’m typically running at 23psi….. no caliper groove, just a mark. Likely the difference then i guess
Cheers!

Pete,I operate my Air Hawke 7.00-600 at 28psi tyre pressure. Works well with 250mm prop clearance. (64” Props)

Hi Tim, thx for the data point!
How does it perform on softer turf?

Hi all,
This debate is quite interesting, I am using a 7” Air Trac tyre with 22 psi on a Beringer wheel. I tried pressures around 28 psi but found the extra height made the aircrafts lateral stability or rather lack of it disturbing, especially on hard surfaced runways as the aircraft would teeter from side to side inducing yaw which is unpleasant (mono drivers will know what I mean). My outriggers are standard lengths.
Regards,

Fwiw, i appreciate the higher deck deck angle to be able to stall it on, tail slightly first with less of a main wheel drop/bounce. I also enjoy the 4” (on a single side) outrigger clearance to be able to keep flying both off the runway when conditions allow. I guess the side to side teetering is a personal preference/objection
John, do you know if the 8” Air Trac can be used on the Beringer wheel? I’d love to switch….the stock caliper misalignment and poor wear etc is terrible.
Cheers!

Hello Pete, please be aware that many here will refer to the 800-6 golf cart tire when you inquire about a 800-6 tire. That tire bears no resemblance to the Airtrac 800-6. The Golf cart 800-6 dimensions varies depending on manufacturer. There have been some who used the Airtrac 800-6 on there Mono, Jos Okhuijsen, David Corbett, Remi G, and others. Remi wrote a article on the Beringer wheel and brake installation on the Mono and felt that it wouldn't work because Beriniger offset the wheel left .125" but I have the Beringer and Airtrac 800-6 4 ply it fits well. It is 1/2" greater dia. than the Airtac 700-6. It has 1/4" clearance on left side and 3/8" on right of Lg. Without a doubt the Mono handles different with air pressure changes, things happen slower at low air pressure.

One point regarding the difference between a Airtrac 700-6 6 ply and a Airtrac 800-6 4 ply as it is 1/2" taller and a inch wider it will maintain propeller clearance when on soft ground, with the 700-6 I was sinking in the soft ground once after a rain storm, and almost took out the prop, a 800-6 will have more floatation. Originally Ivan had a 8:50-6 but with no suspension.

Perfect… thx for the detailed info - much appreciated!
Im currently very happy with the airtrac 8 (at) 23-25psi on tarmac, and would love the beringer upgrade.
Thx again!
